On 8th November 2012, Carrie-Anne Hau of HK Magazine wrote an article on weight loss diets in their circulation, titled “Diet or No Diet”.
Our dietitian Vivien Yiu was interviewed. Vivien’s comments on the different weight loss diets are extracted from the article and listed below.
- Atkins Diet or Low carbohydrate diets – “Low-carbohydrate diets such as the Atkins diet tend to be higher in fat, and eating a high-fat diet may increase the risk of heart disease.”
- Detox Diet or Juice-cleansing Diet – The concept of detox diets is irrational and unscientific. When you starve your body you will get nauseated, dehydrated, weak, light-headed and irritated.
- All fad diets – Fad diets just don’t work. Many beautiful celebrities are following some of these weird and bizarre diets and get the desired results because they usually have a team of personal trainers, chefs and stylists, or they are blessed with ‘good’ genes.
Vivien’s advice for all dieters is “No matter what diet plans you choose, unless and until you exercise regularly and make healthier lifestyle choices permanently, no matter how much you try, no diet plan will ever work.”
